Toyin Abraham’s ‘Oversabi Aunty’ Lands on Netflix After ₦1bn Cinema Success

Toyin Abraham’s Oversabi Aunty has made the jump from the big screen to Netflix following its impressive run at the Nigerian box office.

The 2025 Nollywood comedy, which marked Abraham’s directorial debut, crossed the ₦1 billion milestone during its cinema run. FilmOne reported an initial gross of ₦1.017 billion, while a later update put the film’s box-office earnings at more than ₦1.08 billion.

From Cinema Favourite to Netflix Title

Oversabi Aunty was released in Nigerian cinemas in December 2025 and quickly became one of the country’s major box-office successes.

The movie’s ₦1 billion achievement made it the first Nollywood directorial debut to reach the milestone, putting Abraham in a notable position among Nigerian filmmakers.

The film was also recognised by the National Film and Video Censors Board, which honoured Abraham with a Box Office Champion Award following its commercial performance.

What Is ‘Oversabi Aunty’ About?

The comedy follows an overzealous church usher whose determination to correct the lives of people around her eventually creates chaos within her own family.

Toyin Abraham leads the cast alongside actors including Mike Ezuruonye, Odunlade Adekola and Enioluwa Adeoluwa. Netflix describes the film as a comedy centred on a church usher whose attempts to fix everyone else’s problems end up causing trouble ahead of her daughter’s wedding.

Netflix Availability Depends on Your Country

Although Oversabi Aunty has a Netflix listing, Netflix’s Nigeria page currently indicates that the title isn’t available to watch in Nigeria. Availability can vary by country and may change over time.

This means Nigerian viewers may see the movie listed on Netflix without being able to stream it from the Nigerian catalogue at the moment.

A Major Milestone for Toyin Abraham

Beyond the Netflix release, Oversabi Aunty represents an important milestone in Abraham’s career because she directed the project herself for the first time.

The movie’s box-office performance also earned her recognition from industry regulators, reinforcing the commercial impact of her move into directing.

With its theatrical success and international streaming presence, Oversabi Aunty continues to extend its reach beyond its original cinema audience.
