Major Blow for ISWAP as Troops Kill VIP Escort Commander, Other Fighters in Borno
Nigerian troops have dealt a major blow to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) after killing a senior commander and other fighters during a military operation in Borno State.
The operation was carried out as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts against insurgents operating in the North-East.
According to reports, military forces targeted ISWAP positions in the Sambisa Forest, one of the areas where insurgent groups have maintained hideouts. (Daily Post)
Among those reportedly killed was a commander responsible for providing VIP escort services within the terrorist group, along with other fighters.
The latest operation comes amid sustained military pressure on ISWAP and Boko Haram elements across Borno and the wider Lake Chad region.
Recent operations have also resulted in the killing of senior ISWAP figures and the surrender of high-ranking members of the group, according to military reports. (Punch Newspapers)
The Nigerian military has continued to intensify both ground and air operations in an effort to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their command structures and restrict their freedom of movement.
