Nollywood Icon Olu Jacobs Laid to Rest in Lagos [VIDEO]
Veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs has been laid to rest in Lagos following a funeral service held on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Jacobs was buried at a private cemetery in Lagos after his funeral service at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1. Family members, friends, colleagues and prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment industry gathered to honour the late actor.
Family and Nollywood Colleagues Gather to Honour the Actor
Jacobs’ widow, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their sons, Olusoji and Olugbenga Jacobs, attended the funeral service.
Several Nollywood personalities and dignitaries were also present, including Shaffy Bello, Kate Henshaw, Ireti Doyle, Stephanie Okereke, OC Ukeje and Patrick Doyle. Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun were among the dignitaries at the ceremony.
Final Farewell Comes After Night of Tributes
The funeral followed a Night of Tributes and Service of Songs held on September 30 at Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos Island.
The events provided an opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to celebrate Jacobs’ decades-long contribution to Nigerian theatre, television and film.
Olu Jacobs Leaves Behind a Remarkable Acting Legacy
Jacobs built a career spanning theatre, television and film and became one of the most recognised figures in Nigerian cinema.
After training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, he appeared in British television productions before returning to Nigeria, where he became a major figure in the country’s developing film industry.
His achievements included a Lifetime Achievement Award at AFRIFF in 2021, an Icon Award from AVRS in 2022, and the Industry Merit Award at the 2023 AMVCA.
