Funke Akindele promotes Kamo State’s “Star Lomo” amid backlash

Nigerian actress Funke Akindele has publicly backed Kamo State’s new film, ‘Star Lomo’, after her absence from the movie’s Lagos premiere led to criticism and speculation about their relationship.

The actress shared the film’s promotional material on Saturday, September 26, urging her followers to see Star Lomo in cinemas as Kamo State begins his first major cinema release.

The show of support comes six days after the film’s premiere at a Lagos event on September 20, where Kamo State hosted several colleagues and entertainment figures. Funke Akindele was not among those present, prompting questions from some social media users about why she missed the occasion.

The reactions became strong enough for Kamo State to address the issue himself the following day. He explained that Funke Akindele was outside Nigeria and said her absence had nothing to do with a disagreement between them.

Kamo State also said the two had already discussed the premiere and that Funke Akindele had told him she would support Star Lomo. He asked people to stop speculating about their personal relationship and keep their attention on the film.

That support has now come publicly, with Funke Akindele using her platform to promote the movie as it continues its cinema run.

‘Star Lomo’ opened in Nigerian cinemas on September 25, marking Kamo State’s move from online comedy into feature filmmaking. Kamo State, whose real name is Akinyoola Ayoola, stars in and produced the film, while Kayode Kasum directed it. The cast includes Mike Afolarin, KieKie, Lateef Adedimeji and Folake Babatunde, among others.

Kamo State’s transition into cinema has also been closely linked with his work with Funke Akindele, who featured him in projects including ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’, ‘Aiyetoro Town’ and ‘Behind The Scenes’. Their professional relationship has made her absence from his premiere more noticeable to fans
