BBNaija star Bella demands ₦2.5bn from ex-partner Sheggz over alleged abuse

ormer Big Brother Naija housemate Chidimma Esther Okagbue, popularly known as Bella, has demanded ₦2.5 billion in damages from her former partner, Segun Olusemo, also known as Sheggz, over allegations of physical, emotional and psychological abuse during their relationship.

According to the legal document, Bella is demanding ₦2 billion for the physical, emotional and psychological trauma she allegedly suffered, while another ₦500 million is being sought over the alleged breach of promise to marry.

Her lawyers are also demanding ₦19.826 million and £10,237 in special damages, alongside a public apology and the retraction of alleged defamatory statements made about Bella.

One of the incidents cited in the legal notice allegedly occurred in October 2023, when Bella’s lawyers claimed Sheggz assaulted her, locked her inside his residence, and prevented her from leaving. The lawyers cited a message Bella allegedly sent to Sheggz’s mother during the incident.

“Mum, please, call Sheggz to let me go home. I want to go home; I’ve been disrespected enough.”

Bella’s lawyers further alleged that conversations from November 2025 showed that she had expressed fear for her life and accused Sheggz of threatening to kill her and repeatedly strangling her. The legal team also described one of the alleged incidents as an attempted murder through asphyxiation. The allegations are contained in Bella’s lawyers’ legal notice and have not been established by a court.

The latest development comes after the former couple’s four-year relationship ended and their private dispute escalated into a legal battle in August.

The dispute first became public after Sheggz’s lawyers issued Bella a legal notice accusing her of making defamatory statements about him and his family. Bella’s lawyers rejected the allegations as “spurious and baseless” and subsequently threatened legal action over alleged loans they said Sheggz obtained from their client.

Bella’s lawyers have claimed that Sheggz repeatedly promised to marry her during their relationship. They cited a May 2024 message in which he allegedly wrote, “Then marriage. See my wife, the whole world will be on fire.”

The lawyers also referenced a February 2024 exchange concerning money allegedly owed to Bella. In the conversation, Bella reportedly complained, “you are hanging up on me on top my own money again,” while Sheggz allegedly responded that he would pay her when he had the funds and thanked her for helping him financially when he was struggling.

Sheggz’s legal team has disputed Bella’s account of the couple’s finances. In August, his lawyers said an audit of his UK account showed that he had spent about £220,000 of his own funds during the relationship.

Bella’s lawyers have reportedly given Sheggz three days to meet their demands, failing which they said further legal action would follow.

There has been no court judgment establishing the allegations made by both parties.
